The team was set up in 2009 in Nizhnekamsk as Neftekhimik's farm side, taking over from the earlier Neftekhimik-2, and that same year it became the first club in the league to sign a foreign player, Shamil Ramazanov from Ukraine.

Home games are played at Neftekhim Arena, which holds 5,500. The players share their mother club's wolf mascot, which is why fans sometimes call the team the Wolves alongside the official nickname Reaktory. Robert Chernov wears the captain's armband.

Raul Yakupov led the club in scoring in both the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons.
