Roskilde Women

Roskilde Kongres- & Idrætscenter is where Roskilde Håndbold's women play their league fixtures. The club itself came together in 1977, when two local rivals, RH 33 and Acta, merged rather than keep competing against each other in the same city; it went by Håndboldklubben Roar Roskilde until 2005, when the name was shortened to the one it carries now.

The women's side has never reached a Danish league title or a cup, and its two attempts at the top flight, the Damehåndboldligaen, both ended in relegation after a single season — 2010/11 and again in 2020/21. There was a moment when the team's fortunes might have turned: in 1999 Anja Andersen tried to buy the women's team and push it into the top level, but Roskilde Municipality would not cooperate, and the deal collapsed. Andersen went on to build the Slagelse Dream Team instead, while Roskilde stayed a club without a promotion story to tell.

The men's team had the better of it once, taking the Danish Cup in 1994 with a 26–19 win over Skjern, before overspending on foreign players in the late 1990s dragged the club into the kind of financial trouble that forces a withdrawal from the top division.

No fixture against Ajax København, Hvidovre or Rødovre carries the weight of a fierce derby.
