Rostocker Women

The women's section that plays today as Rostocker HC did not begin from nothing. When PSV Rostock went insolvent in 2005, its handball department needed a new home, and two years later a joint venture between PSV and a newly formed Rostocker HC gave the team its current shape. Before that it had passed through SC Empor Rostock, Handball-Club Empor and PSV itself, carrying the Rostock Dolphins nickname it picked up in 2005 into the new club.

That lineage matters because the earlier version of the team, under Empor Rostock, won six East German championships through the 1960s and 1980s and reached the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1969. The Rostocker HC founded in 2007 has not matched that on a national stage, but it has climbed steadily: promotion to the 2. Bundesliga came in 2008, and again in 2025, the second time on the back of three straight 3. Liga Nord-Ost titles in 2023, 2024 and 2025.

Matches against SV Grün-Weiß Schwerin carry their own weight in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, billed locally as the Mecklenburger Derby, with a second, smaller rivalry against TSG Wismar.

Few at the club are as recognisable as captain Nele Reimer.
