SL Benfica

Six league titles in six seasons is the number that sits above everything else in the Benfica women's story, and the run only stopped counting because the pandemic handed them the first one without a ball being kicked after the 2019–20 season was suspended. Every campaign from 2020–21 onward they won it outright, five in a row, a stretch of domestic control that no rival has interrupted.

It started from nothing. The section was set up in December 2017, and when it took the field competitively for the first time, in the 2018–19 Second Division, it beat UD Ponte de Frielas 28–0, the heaviest margin recorded in senior Portuguese football at the time. Benfica went through that debut season unbeaten and were promoted straight into the top flight, where the trophies followed almost immediately: the Portuguese Cup that same year, then the League Cup and the Super Cup piling up alongside the league title year after year.

Training and most matches happen at the Benfica Campus in Seixal, with the Estádio Municipal José Martins Vieira in Almada also used for league fixtures, but the Lisbon Derby against Sporting CP and the big European nights move to the Estádio da Luz, where crowds run into the tens of thousands rather than the low thousands the team sees week to week. Kika Nazareth and Jéssica Silva have carried the side's attacking identity through those European nights, and it was under that generation that Benfica became a fixture in the UEFA Women's Champions League group stage every season since 2020–21.

The quarter-finals, reached in 2023–24 before Olympique Lyonnais ended the run, remain the furthest the club has gone in Europe. A first continental trophy is still the gap between what Benfica have built at home and what they have yet to show outside Portugal.
