Starbulls Rosenheim

Under him Sportbund DJK Rosenheim, built around players such as Ron Fischer and Raimund Hilger, became the team the rest of the Bundesliga measured itself against.

That club had grown out of the 1978 collapse of the original EV Rosenheim, whose hockey section then moved into the wider Sportbund DJK Rosenheim and kept winning under its new name. Further 2. Bundesliga titles followed: 1970 and 1975 as EV Rosenheim, 1993 as SB/DJK Rosenheim. In 1994 the club restructured into a limited company, Star Bulls Rosenheim GmbH, and sold its licence to the Iserlohn Roosters in 2000.

The rivalry with EV Landshut still fills the SPIE Arena, a 4,425-seat ground the club now calls home, whenever the two meet in what locals call the Derby-Klassiker. The rebuilt club took the DEB-Pokal in 2011, then climbed the divisions on merit: an Oberliga title in 2010, an Oberliga Süd title in 2023 and promotion to DEL2.

None of that existed on 23 May 2000, when Starbulls Rosenheim e.V. registered itself from nothing and entered the Bezirksliga to start again.
