Trefelin

When Lee Trundle signed for Trefelin Boys & Girls Club in January 2019, he had already played for Leeds United, Swansea City and Wales. He stayed. Seven years later, in 2025/26, he was still turning out for the club when it won the Cymru South title and went up to the Cymru Premier for the first time in its history.

That start was modest. Trefelin played its early football at Plough Recreation Ground, working through local Port Talbot competitions before a fundraising drive in 1996 paid for the move to Ynys Park, the ground it still calls home. From there the climb went one division at a time: the South Wales Amateur League, then the South Wales Alliance League, whose title in 2016 opened the door to the Welsh Football League. In 2019/20, with the season cut short by the coronavirus pandemic, Trefelin were unbeaten at the top of Division One and went up to Cymru South, the tier below the Welsh top flight.

Andy Hill took over as manager in October 2023 and was still in charge when the Cymru South title arrived in 2025/26. Along the way there were smaller prizes worth remembering — but promotion to the Cymru Premier is the one the club had never had before.

In Port Talbot, Trefelin's fixture with Port Talbot Town is known locally as the Steel Derby, and it draws the town's biggest crowds. With Port Talbot Town no longer in the top flight, the sharper rivalries now run against Afan Lido, Baglan Dragons and Goytre United.
