That climb has a specific starting point: 2011, when Bayer AG withdrew its sponsorship and the independent entity DHC Rheinland, which had carried the handball department, filed for insolvency. The team was folded back into TSV Bayer Dormagen in 2012 and restarted in the 3. Liga, winning the West division in both 2012/13 and 2013/14 before returning to the 2. Bundesliga.
