Västerås IK

For most of a century the city's winters have belonged to the club that grew out of Västerås Idrottsklubb, founded on 6 January 1913.

The name on the jersey has not stayed still. The sections split apart in 1980, and the hockey side carried on as IK VIK Hockey until a bankruptcy in 2000 forced the senior team into the club's own youth organisation, playing as Västerås IK Ungdom and then, from 2005, as VIK Västerås HK. Only in 2018 did the club take back the name it started with.

Under that original name or not, Gulsvart's best hockey came earlier. The club won the Elitserien regular-season title in 1992/93, then lost in the quarter-finals to Djurgården. Bronze medals in 1961 and 1962 remain the closest it came to the podium. Since returning to the second tier in the modern HockeyAllsvenskan era, the furthest the team has reached is the quarter-finals, most recently in three straight seasons through 2023–24.

Home games are played in front of 4,902 seats at ABB Arena Nord, in yellow and black.

No one who came through the club is remembered like Nicklas Lidström, who left Västerås for a career that ended in the Hockey Hall of Fame.
