Cambridge & Clydach and Briton Ferry played out a 1-1 draw in the Premier League's second round of the regular season on Friday evening. The result leaves both sides in the bottom half of the table after seven games, with the hosts sitting on nine points and the visitors on seven.
T. Walters opened the scoring for Cambridge & Clydach in the thirty-second minute, a goal that gave his side a slender lead before the interval. Briton Ferry responded through L. Eason, who converted a penalty in the seventy-sixth minute to level matters and keep his side in contention.
The match was far from a spectacle, but it was far from dull either. Cambridge & Clydach dominated possession at fifty-eight per cent and registered 135 attacks to their opponents' 112, yet only managed to find the back of the net once. They registered eleven shots on target, but a penalty was hardly a fair reflection of the work they put in.
There were plenty of bookings to note, with six yellow cards in total. T. Price went off early for Cambridge & Clydach in the sixty-second minute, while J. Beecher and A. Gammond each picked up a caution for Briton Ferry before the break. The second half saw T. Walters booked for his side, with L. Bates and A. Evans joining the list in stoppage time.
Substitutions were frequent, particularly in the final quarter. L. Bowen came on for Briton Ferry in the sixty-fourth minute, followed by J. Beecher, J. Allen, and A. Gammond for Cambridge & Clydach. O. Anderson was the last change, arriving in the ninety-third minute.
Cambridge & Clydach head into the next round with a slight advantage in the standings, though both sides have found the bottom half of the table a comfortable enough place. The hosts have not won since their victory over Newport City in late June, while Briton Ferry's recent form has been more inconsistent, with a heavy defeat at Oxford City standing out.
