Boreham Wood defeated Halifax Town 3-1 in the National League's regular season round two on 15 August. The visitors took all three points back to the north, moving further clear at the top of the table. Halifax remain rooted to 17th place after six matches.
Halifax started with more urgency, winning a corner and pressing forward. And here's the thing — they created the better chances in those opening quarter-hours, but couldn't convert. By then, W. Hugill had picked up a yellow card in the 16th minute for a challenge that didn't look dangerous on replay. The first half ended goalless, though Halifax's M. Rush came closest with a shot that hit the post. To be fair, Boreham Wood weren't particularly threatening in that period either.
Everything shifted after the break. B. Tollitt opened the scoring in the 51st minute, latching onto a through ball and finishing low into the corner. Halifax pulled one back five minutes later when M. Rush equalised from close range. But the game was effectively over soon after — A. Abdulmalik restored Boreham Wood's lead in the 68th minute, and M. Rush scored his second in the 84th minute to seal the result. The away end never stopped once Boreham Wood went ahead.
The statistics tell a straightforward story. Both sides had equal possession at 50 per cent, but Boreham Wood were more efficient with their chances. They registered four shots on target compared to Halifax's three, and their accuracy rate of 50 per cent was double their opponents'. Halifax produced 94 attacks against 91, but the difference came in the final third. Corners favoured the visitors, 10 to 6, and Boreham Wood's goalkeeper made only one save while Halifax's made the same number — neither keeper was tested heavily.
The result leaves Boreham Wood top of the National League with 16 points from five wins and one draw. Halifax sit 17th on six points from two victories and four defeats. The gap between them is now ten points, and both teams have played the same number of games. Boreham Wood are unbeaten in six, and this win extends that run comfortably.
