Kreuzlingen — Zürich II: 2:2, 1. Liga Promotion

Kreuzlingen and Zürich II played out a 2:2 draw in the Swiss First League on Sunday, ending regular season round eight with neither side claiming victory. The result leaves Kreuzlingen still rooted in sixteenth place with seven points, while Zürich II remain in tenth with ten points after seven matches.

By then the home side had already shown they could fight back — they lost 1:2 to Bellinzona on September 13th and 0:1 to Grand-Saconnex before that, but they beat Breitenrain 1:0 and drew 1:1 with Paradiso in between. Zürich II arrived with mixed fortunes: three wins against two defeats, including a 3:2 victory over Basel II and a 2:1 win against Amical St-Pre, but also heavy losses to Paradiso and Ham.

And here's the thing — we had backed the visitors for a win at 39 per cent confidence. The prediction did not come off, and the reason was straightforward enough. Zürich II let the game flow too much against a Kreuzlingen side that got dragged out of position but refused to break, turning what looked like a comfortable away performance into a point apiece.

To be fair, the table does not move much from this result. Kreuzlingen stay seven points adrift of safety, though they have one game in hand over some sides above them. Zürich II remain in the upper half but are not closing the gap to the promotion places any faster.
