Jelgava secured a comfortable 4:1 victory over Tukums in the Virsliga Regular Season on Saturday. The visitors took control early and never looked back, extending their advantage through the second half before Tukums were reduced to ten men late on.
Tukums started brightly, with T. Rataj finding the net in the first minute. The opening goal did little to settle nerves, however, as Jelgava responded through Leoni in the twenty-sixth minute and A. Petersons shortly after half-time. By then the momentum had shifted decisively.
R. Melkis added a fourth in the sixty-second minute, and F. Hasek completed the scoring in the seventy-fifth. Tukums made changes in an attempt to stem the flow, but the damage was done. And here's the thing — the hosts simply could not respond once Jelgava found their rhythm.
R. Reingolcs collected two yellows before the end, the second coming in the ninety-fourth minute to earn a dismissal. It was a harsh conclusion to an evening where Tukums had already surrendered any chance of a comeback. M. Stals and T. Rataj also received bookings for the hosts.
Jelgava dominated possession at sixty per cent and created six big chances compared to Tukums' zero. The visitors registered nine shots on target to five, though their accuracy was slightly lower at thirty-five per cent. Tukums managed only four shots inside the penalty area.
The result moves Jelgava further clear in sixth place with thirty-one points, while Tukums remain ninth on twenty. After twenty-eight games, the hosts have won four, drawn eight and lost sixteen — a record that continues to trouble them.
