Jelgava sits south-west of Riga, a city of factories and a university, and for years its football ran through one professional club. When FK Jelgava went under on money problems, the town was left with a first division place and nobody to fill it.

What filled it had been set up on 4 April 2017 as Albatroz SC — a football school, children and teenagers, no senior ambitions written into it. In 2021 that school absorbed the structure of the collapsed club and took over its position in the league system, playing for a time under the double name Albatroz SC/FS Jelgava. The same year it won 1. Liga, the second tier, and went up. By 2022 the double name had gone and the club registered as FS Jelgava.

The predecessor's honours belong to the predecessor: four Latvian Cups between 2010 and 2016 were won by a club that no longer exists. FS Jelgava has its own, shorter ledger — promotion in 2021, sixth place in the Virslīga in 2023 and again in 2025, a last-sixteen tie in the cup in 2025.

Home is the Zemgale Olympic Centre, and the number that defines it is 1,560 seats — a top-flight side playing in front of a crowd smaller than many lower-league grounds hold. The kit is carmine red with black, white away.

Metta/LU is the fixture that matters most, though nobody has given the meeting a name.

The club sits in the Virslīga without a nickname, without a stadium built for the division it plays in, and with sixth as the mark to beat. Getting above it, in a league where the top places have been settled elsewhere, is the work in front of them.
