About

Latvijas kauss futbolā serves as the primary knockout football competition in Latvia, organized by the Latvian Football Federation. Founded in 1937, the tournament replaced the earlier Riga Football Cup and has undergone interruptions during periods of occupation before resuming in 1946. The structure relies on a single-elimination format that includes preliminary stages for lower-tier participants before the top-flight Virslīga clubs enter in the Round of 16. Approximately 50 teams participate annually, with lower-league sides from the 1. līga, 2. līga, and 3. līga competing in early rounds. The event offers a distinct pathway to European football. While league positions determine Champions League access, the cup winner secures a place in the UEFA Europa Conference League second qualifying round, or the first round depending on coefficient calculations. If the champion has already qualified through the league, the berth passes to the next highest-placed team. This mechanism allows lower-placed sides an alternative route to continental competition compared to the Virslīga standings. Skonto Rīga holds the record for the most victories with eight titles, while FK Ventspils and ASK Rīga have each claimed seven. Elektons Rīga also shares the seven-title mark. The competition carries various sponsorship names over the years, currently known as the LVBET Latvian Cup for the 2026 season. The format concludes with a single final match after quarter-finals and semi-finals, with no promotion or relegation linked to the outcome. Previous editions saw FK Auda defeat Riga FC in 2025, while RFS beat Auda in 2024. The tournament remains a key fixture in the domestic calendar, providing opportunity beyond the standard league hierarchy.
