The club started inside a school. Riga Secondary School No. 62, in the Ķengarags district, put its name to a football club on 2 August 2000.

That order of business explains why the club's first pieces of silverware belong to children. In 2013 the under-11s went to Sweden and won the Gothia Cup, a tournament that draws thousands of teams from dozens of countries; the following year the 2005-born group took the Dobrecova Cup at home.

Its turn arrived in 2017, in the Kurzeme-Zemgale zone of the Latvian second division. The step up to the first division took another seven years to convert: Super Nova won the 1. līga in 2024.

Home is the Jānis Skredelis Stadium in Riga. There was a spell away from the capital, with the club based in Salaspils across 2022 and 2023, but the address is back in Riga now.

The colours are yellow and dark blue, and the nickname follows the shirt: the Yellow Stars.

Where the rivalries sit is partly a question of geography and partly of the ladder.
