FK Liepaja

The title came in the club's second season, when it had barely finished stitching itself together. FK Liepāja won the Latvian championship in 2015, a year and a bit after being assembled in January 2014 out of what was left of Liepājas Metalurgs — the players, the youth sides, the place in the top flight — after the steelworks that funded the old club went under. Two cups followed, in 2017 and 2020, and a second-place finish in the league in between.

Money has shaped the name as much as the football. For two seasons, 2017 and 2018, the club played as FK Liepāja/Mogo under a sponsorship deal with a finance firm; from 2019 the plain name returned.

Europe has been a series of short visits. Six qualifying campaigns have ended at the second round: Red Bull Salzburg in the Champions League, Norrköping and Sūduva in the Europa League, Young Boys and, most recently, Austria Vienna in the Conference League. The closest call was CSKA Sofia in 2021, decided on penalties. Home legs in those ties have often been played 200 kilometres away at the Sloka ground in Jūrmala, because the Daugava Stadium in Liepāja — 4,022 seats — has not always met UEFA's requirements.

Bronze in 2021 and again in 2025 marks the shape of the last few years: in the mix, not at the front.

The fixture that carries the most edge locally is against FK Grobiņa, whose town sits 20 kilometres up the road. Neighbours that close do not need a trophy at stake to fill a ground.
