Hull condemn racist abuse of new signing Robinio Vaz

Hull City say they are working with police and the Premier League to trace those responsible for racist abuse aimed at loan signing Robinio Vaz.

Hull City have condemned "disgusting" racist abuse aimed at Robinio Vaz after announcing the striker's signing on transfer deadline day.

The 19-year-old Frenchman joined the promoted Premier League side on a season-long loan from Roma, with an option to buy at the end of the campaign. He scored one Serie A goal for Roma last season. The club's post confirming the move drew a wave of derogatory comments and has since been deleted.

"No individual should ever experience discriminatory abuse, and the club will provide Robinio with our full support," Hull said in a statement. "We are also working with Humberside police and other relevant authorities to identify the accounts responsible for this disgusting abuse, so that appropriate action can be taken against those individuals. Hull City has a zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of discrimination, and in the last 24 hours we have been in communication with the Premier League, anti-discrimination charity Kick It Out and the relevant Social media companies. We stand with Robinio and encourage all supporters to continue to report any form of discrimination."

The Premier League also weighed in. "We are disgusted by the ongoing discrimination players face on Social media and are committed to working with clubs, authorities, law enforcement and social media companies to address this issue," it said.

Vaz arrives at a club in form. Hull have won both their opening two matches back in the top flight and host Aston Villa on Saturday.
