PSG Thrash Slovan Bratislava 6-1 in Champions League

Paris Saint-Germain opened their Champions League defence with a 6-1 thrashing of Slovan Bratislava at the Parc des Princes on 9 September, and set a club record along the way: 35 shots on target, the most PSG have managed in a single Champions League match since detailed statistics began.

Ferran Torres scored a hat-trick, in the 31st, 47th and 57th minutes. Ousmane Dembélé added two, in the 17th and 23rd, and set up two more. Fabián Ruiz completed the scoring in the 88th minute. Souleymane Camara got the goal that beat Matvey Safonov, Slovan's only reply, in the 59th minute.

PSG, the club Mbappé joined last month, go into the tournament as holders. Safonov played the full match for Krasnodar. He returns to action on 14 October away at Manchester City, while Slovan host Stuttgart the same day.

Elsewhere on the opening matchday, Barcelona beat Feyenoord 5-1, Stuttgart saw off Viking 3-1, Sporting beat Galatasaray 3-1 and Liverpool won 2-1 against Atlético Madrid. Napoli lost 1-0 at home to Arsenal.

Real Madrid had opened their own campaign a day earlier, beating Inter Milan 2-1 at the Bernabéu, Kylian Mbappé and Federico Valverde on target either side of a reply from Carlos Augusto. Inter had gone into that match without Federico Dimarco, sidelined by a knee sprain.
