Mastantuono scores first Fiorentina goals in Venezia win

Franco Mastantuono opened his account for Fiorentina with two goals in a single minute against Venezia, ending a run of five matches without a goal for his new side.

The Argentine midfielder, on loan from Real Madrid, had been anonymous in Serie A since his arrival. He looked lively from the first whistle in Venice, testing countryman Matías Moreno in the 11th minute with a run into the box that the defender blocked at the last moment.

Venezia, promoted and still without a win after three rounds, went ahead in the 22nd minute through Akor Adams. The Nigerian forward, signed from Sevilla this summer, took the ball in the area with no first touch and beat David De Gea with a clean strike to the corner — his first Serie A goal, having scored twice already in the Coppa Italia.

Mastantuono answered inside eight minutes. In the 29th he went past his marker and finished tight to the near post, then on the counter a minute later curled a left-footed effort into the far corner. Fiorentina led 2-1 at the break.

Paolo Vanoli took charge of the bench again after Fabio Grosso was sacked on Sunday.

Matías Moreno, the defender beaten by Mastantuono early on, joined Venezia in September and is still waiting for his first goal for the club.
