Szoboszlai: I Want to Stay at Liverpool as Long as Possible
The Hungary midfielder says he would gladly accept the Liverpool captaincy if offered, calling it the club's greatest honour after praise from Van Dijk.
Dominik Szoboszlai says he wants to stay at Liverpool "for as long as possible" and would gladly take the captaincy if it were offered to him.
Teammates have begun handing him armband duties.
"Sometimes I go to matches and see people wearing shirts with my name on them too. I'm glad I can be a role model for them. I want to be here for as long as possible, and to help the team win as much as possible. Because I believe we're capable of it, and I know it. So you have to show it – sometimes words are loud, but you have to act too," Szoboszlai said.
He was also asked about praise from Virgil van Dijk, who has singled out his leadership qualities. "You know, when words like that come from him, it's a different matter entirely. I don't need to say it myself," Szoboszlai said.
Asked directly whether he is aiming to become Liverpool captain, he did not hesitate. "Of course. I think there's no greater honour than becoming captain of Liverpool, and I would happily accept that role," said Szoboszlai, who already serves as the club's vice-captain.
