Paris prosecutors open investigation into PSG president Al-Khelaïfi

The Paris prosecutor's office has opened a preliminary investigation into Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi on suspicion of misusing his position for personal interests, L'Équipe reported.

The inquiry concerns the sale of French league television rights in the summer of 2024. Al-Khelaïfi was then president of PSG, head of beIN Media Group and a board member of the Professional Football League (LFP). Investigators will examine whether he tried to influence the league's leadership so that the rights went to beIN Sports, which belongs to his group.

The league chose a deal with DAZN and beIN Sports over selling the rights to its own channel. DAZN took eight matches from each round, beIN one. The partnership with DAZN ended after the first season.

The case began with a complaint from the anti-corruption association Anticor, filed on 3 March 2026. The prosecutor's office confirmed to L'Équipe that the proceedings were opened in April and handed to the financial anti-corruption brigade (BFAC).

Al-Khelaïfi's lawyer told AFP that his client has "always acted independently, impartially and objectively". His representatives call the Anticor complaint "absurd".

The news comes on the eve of PSG's trip to Marseille, a Ligue 1 fixture in round 5 kicking off at 20:45 local time on Sunday 20 September. Luis Enrique's side, by Corriere dello Sport's account, are down the table after a poor start to the league season and need the points badly.
