About the player
Alan Cervantes came through the youth ranks at Guadalajara. That spell at León in 2017 lasted only half a season before he returned to Chivas, where he stayed through 2019 and, in 2018, won the CONCACAF Champions League.
He was part of the Mexico squad that finished runners-up at the 2021 Gold Cup, built on the foundation of a CONCACAF Under-17 title he had already won with the youth national team back in 2015.
Santos Laguna signed him in 2020 and kept him for four seasons, long enough that by January 2024 his value had risen — Cruz Azul tried to prise him away with an offer reported at three million dollars, but the deal fell through. Santos held on to him for a few more months before Club América took him on in July 2024, a switch that arrived with the outline of the transfer, loan or otherwise, never fully confirmed in public.
The timing worked out. Cervantes was part of the América squad that won the Apertura 2024 title, his first league championship at senior club level in Mexico. He has yet to pick up an individual award, and his appearances since have been limited.
