About the player
The penalty came in the 72nd minute of the Westfalen Cup final, and Japaur missed it. SC Verl beat Sportfreunde Lotte 3-0 anyway on 23 May 2026 and took the trophy.
That he was on the pitch at all in May was the larger part of the story. He had signed for Verl on a free transfer the previous summer, and in July 2025 he ruptured a cruciate ligament — an injury that ruled him out for months and cost him the start of his time at the club.
The route there ran through Bavaria. Japaur played his early football at SpVgg Kaufbeuren until 2017, then moved into the FC Augsburg academy. With the Augsburg Under-19s he won the Under-19 Bundesliga South/South-West title in 2021/22. From 2021 to 2024 he turned out for FC Augsburg II in the Regionalliga Bayern, and by the 2023/24 season he was a regular starter.
In the summer of 2024 he left Augsburg on a free move to Würzburger Kickers, staying a single season before the switch to Verl, again with no fee involved.
He was born in Mindelheim in Germany and holds both German and Bosnian-Herzegovinian nationality. Databases list him as two-footed. There are no individual awards or scoring titles on his record.
