About the player
When Yari Otto joined SC Verl on a free transfer in September 2022, German media picked up on it as a rare case of twins reaching the professional ranks together, though the pairing was hardly new: the two had come through the VfL Wolfsburg academy side by side and then played together at Eintracht Braunschweig .
Otto played all five of Germany's matches at the UEFA European Under-17 Championship and scored three goals as the side reached the semi-finals. That tournament sat in the middle of 14 caps at under-17 level; he also collected nine for the under-16s, nine for the under-19s and four for the under-20s.
His path through club football began at TSG Mörse, before Wolfsburg took him into their academy in 2011. It was Braunschweig who handed him a debut in 2018 — first with the reserve team, then in the first team, over a spell in which the club played in both the 3. Liga and the 2. Bundesliga .
At Verl he wears the number 17 shirt and extended his contract in the summer of 2023. As of mid-2025 he remained a regular for the club in the 3. Liga.
