Fabian Wessig

Ten goals and five assists from midfield in 32 league matches: that was Fabian Wessig's 2023/24 with Würzburger Kickers, the season the club won the Regionalliga Bayern title. It earned them a place in the promotion round for the 3. Liga, where the run ended against Hannover 96 II.

The route there began at five years old with FSV Inningen, an amateur club in the Augsburg area. In 2011 he joined the FC Augsburg academy and worked up through it, playing for the U17 and then the U19 side that won the U19 Bundesliga Süd/Südwest championship in 2021/22. He was already appearing for Augsburg's second team by then, and made 63 appearances for it in all, four of them in cup competition. He did not score in the league for the second team.

The move to Würzburg in July 2023 came on a free transfer, and the goals arrived almost immediately. He became a regular for the Kickers across two seasons before leaving in July 2025, again on a free.

At SC Verl he found the 3. Liga at last, making 17 appearances in his first season there. The 2026/27 campaign has brought one appearance so far.

Left-footed and tall for a midfielder, Wessig has spent most of his career in the tiers below the professional divisions — the Augsburg reserves, then the Regionalliga.
