Carlos Alberto Henao Sánchez

When Carlos Henao joined Atlético Bucaramanga, the club had never won a Colombian title in its history. By the time he left, it had won two: the Torneo Apertura in 2024 and the Superliga in 2025. He had already lifted a domestic trophy once before, with Independiente Santa Fe in the 2018 Apertura, so by the time Bucaramanga broke its drought he had gone through the experience of winning as an outsider and again as one of the players who ended a club's wait for silverware.

A left-footed defender from Turbo, Henao built his career on availability more than on goals scored from the back. Across his time in the Categoría Primera A he made 397 appearances in defence, a workload that points to a player clubs kept selecting rather than rotating. From the penalty spot, on the rare occasions the responsibility fell to him, he converted 8 of 9 attempts.

His route through Colombian football has taken him from Santa Fe, where the 2018 title came early in that spell, through several years away from the game's headlines, and then to Bucaramanga in 2021, where he stayed until 2025 and became part of the squad that delivered the club's breakthrough championship. From there he moved on to Jaguares de Córdoba, taking the number 29 shirt at the start of 2026.

There is no record of a call-up to the Colombian national team in his career to date. What stands out instead is the shape of a defender who kept earning selection year after year and twice finished on the winning side when a title was on the line.
