About the player
When Deportivo Pasto needed a way through in a promotion play-off, it was their goalkeeper who stepped up to take the decisive penalty for Jaguares years later, the spot-kick that helped send the club up to Colombia's top flight becoming the moment supporters point to first when his name comes up.
Diego Alejandro Martínez Marín started out with Jaguares de Córdoba in 2015, making three appearances in the Copa Águila before moving on. Spells followed at Boyacá Patriotas, where he made 42 appearances and kept 16 clean sheets across two seasons, and then a brief stint at Independiente Santa Fe in 2019, where he played a single match.
His longest and most productive period came at Deportivo Pasto, where he spent five seasons from 2020 to 2025 and made more than 150 appearances across the Primera A, the Copa Colombia and the Copa Sudamericana. Santa Fe sold him to Pasto outright in 2021, though the fee was not disclosed. Across those years he established himself as a regular starter rather than a squad option, a rare run of continuity for a goalkeeper in Colombian football.
Martínez has not been capped by Colombia's senior national side, though he did turn out for a regional representative side from his home department, Quindío, according to a report in Cronica del Quindío. He returned to Jaguares de Córdoba as a free agent this year, going back to the club where his professional career began a decade earlier.
