Johan Alberto Hinestroza Rentería

Johan Hinestroza started out in the academy at Atlético Nacional, breaking into the first team in 2021. A year later Portland Timbers 2 took him on loan, a stint in the United States that gave him a look at football outside Colombia before he returned home to South American football.

The following seasons took him through Fortaleza CEIF and back to Atlético Nacional in 2024, where he won the Copa Colombia and the Torneo Finalización — the clearest mark on his record to date, even if his own role in that squad was as a squad player rather than a headline name. Early last year he moved on to Envigado FC, and on 10 January this year he joined Jaguares de Córdoba on a free transfer from Envigado.

At Jaguares, Hinestroza has settled into a holding midfield role, appearing in 16 Primera A matches without a goal or an assist to his name. Discipline has been the more notable thread of that spell: six yellow cards in those appearances point to a player doing his defensive work in front of the back line rather than pushing forward. He has also represented Colombia at Under-17 level, an early sign of the recognition he carried into his professional career.

Johan Alberto Hinestroza Rentería, born in Apartadó, has moved through five clubs in five years without ever settling for long in one place — a career built, so far, on utility rather than a single defining moment.
