Dayro Mauricio Moreno Galindo

Once Caldas ran a Copa Libertadores campaign in 2004 and needed a striker who could finish; Dayro Moreno, still a teenager from El Espinal, was in the squad that won it. It set the tone for a career that would keep circling back to the same shirt.

Steaua paid a club-record fee for him in 2008, but the move ended badly: Moreno left the Romanian side without the club's consent, a breach that overshadowed what he had produced on the pitch. Club Tijuana bought him in 2011 for a fee well above what Steaua had paid, and he stayed on their books, on and off loan, for most of the decade that followed. Loan spells took him to Atlético Junior and Millonarios in Colombia, and later to Atlético Nacional, where he won the 2017 Apertura title and the Recopa Sudamericana. His time at Nacional ended abruptly in 2018, when the club dismissed him after a fight with teammate Yeison Guzmán.

What sets Moreno apart is the goalscoring record he built across two decades. He holds the all-time scoring record in the Colombian league and the IFFHS ranks him as the country's top scorer of the 21st century among top-flight leagues. He has finished as the Colombian championship's top scorer seven times, in 2007, 2010, 2013, 2014, 2017 and 2022, and topped the scoring charts in Mexico's Apertura 2016 while at Tijuana. Off the pitch he has had his share of trouble, including a facial fracture suffered during a holiday break in 2012.

With the national team he made over thirty appearances and scored three goals, and at youth level he was part of the Colombia side that won gold at the 2006 Central American and Caribbean Games and the 2005 South American U-20 championship. After spells in Bolivia with Oriente Petrolero and back home with Atlético Bucaramanga, Moreno returned to Once Caldas in 2023, the club where his career had started.
