About the player
Juan David Cuesta Santos built his career away from Colombia before returning to play there. A right-back from Vigía del Fuerte, in Antioquia, he made his way through Venezuelan football, joining Carabobo FC in 2017 and staying with the club, on and off, until 2024. His development ran largely through loan spells: a year split between Club Presidente Hayes in Paraguay and Fortaleza CEIF in Brazil in 2019/2020, followed by another loan to Club Sol de América in Paraguay in 2020/2021.
Back at Carabobo, Cuesta established himself as a regular in the Venezuelan Primera División, featuring in the 2017, 2022 and 2023 seasons and playing in the 2023 Copa Libertadores. His clearest individual mark came in 2022, when he was named the best right-back in the Venezuelan league. He also trained with Colombia's under-20 side, though the extent of his involvement with that squad has not been detailed.
Once Caldas brought him in on loan for the 2023–2024 campaign, and the move became permanent in July 2024, returning Cuesta to Colombian football for the first time since his career took him abroad as a young player.
