Vîrtej's path to Sepsi OSK began in the academy of Gloria Buzău, where he made his first-team debut in 2015. Rather than a single breakthrough move, his career has been built on a string of steps through Romania's lower and middle tiers: two years at CS Afumați before he returned to AS FC Buzău.
