Diego Matías Rodríguez

Diego Matías Rodríguez spent the bulk of his career at Independiente, breaking into the first team in 2008 and staying with the club through 2016 across Argentina's top and second divisions. The clearest mark of that spell came in 2010, when he won the Copa Sudamericana with the club.

Loan spells took him well beyond Buenos Aires. In 2018 he went to Japan, playing 20 matches for JEF United Chiba in the second tier of the J. League. A year later, after joining Defensa y Justicia as a free agent, he was farmed out again, first to Central Córdoba de Santiago del Estero and then to Elche in Spain. He reached a domestic cup final twice without lifting the trophy, finishing runner-up in the Copa Argentina with Rosario Central in 2015/16 and again with Central Córdoba in 2019.

A move to Greece followed in 2021, with a season at Panetolikos, before Rodríguez returned home in 2022 to sign for Godoy Cruz. He held down the goalkeeping job there for two seasons, making 68 appearances. Argentinos Juniors signed him as a free agent in 2024, and he became a fixture in goal there too, going on to make 85 appearances for the club.

Rodríguez's only senior international experience came at youth level, with Argentina's under-20 side. Sergio Batista called him up for the 2009 South American Youth Championship, where he started in goal against Ecuador in a result that sent the Argentine side through to the tournament's second round.
