Fifty matches in Croatia against three in Argentina: Facundo Agustín Cáseres has played the bulk of his football a long way from the club that raised him.
He came through the academy at Vélez Sarsfield and turned professional there in 2020, though the senior side used him sparingly — three appearances in the Argentine league. In August 2021 he was sent to Istra 1961 in Croatia on a season-long loan, and in July 2022 the arrangement was extended for another year. That second season mattered: across the two campaigns he made 50 appearances for Istra and scored four goals.
He did not go back to Buenos Aires. On 30 August 2023 he signed for Farense in Portugal as a free agent, playing 21 matches for the club.
His move to Gil Vicente followed the same route. He arrived on 23 July 2024, again as a free agent, on a one-year contract. He has since become a fixture, with 49 appearances for the club as of May 2026.
Cáseres is right-footed and operates in front of the defence, either as a holding midfielder or in a more central role.
