Fernando Fabián Fernández Acosta

Fernando Fernández came through Club Guaraní's own academy, joining as a boy in 2005 and working his way up over seven years before breaking into the first team in 2013. The pull of the shirt never really let go: after three seasons that produced 62 goals in 88 appearances, a move abroad, and a spell at another Asunción giant, he has returned to Guaraní twice, most recently in January 2025.

His best spell in Paraguay came in that first run at the club. Fernández was named Paraguayan Footballer of the Year in 2014, the same year he finished as the Clausura's top scorer with 17 goals. He backed it up by leading the Apertura scoring charts again the following year, with 11.

The move to Mexico's UANL Tigres in 2016 brought the biggest silverware of his career: a Liga MX Apertura title and the Campeón de Campeones trophy, plus a run to the CONCACAF Champions League final. Loan spells and transfers followed at Olimpia, América de Cali and Atlante, where two seasons produced 16 goals in 41 matches before he headed back to Guaraní in 2019 for a second stint that yielded 51 goals in 124 games.

A switch to Cerro Porteño in 2023 added a domestic title to his record, with the club winning the Paraguayan championship that year. Fernández has also been called up to the Paraguay national team, though he has yet to make an appearance for the senior side.

Now back at Guaraní wearing number 40, he remains a forward built around goals rather than build-up play, the same trait that first got him noticed as a teenager in the club's youth ranks.
