Felipe Álvarez

Felipe Álvarez spent nearly a decade inside River Plate's youth system before ever making it to Uruguay. He joined the Buenos Aires club's academy at 12, arriving from Sarmiento in his hometown of Morse, and from 2018 lived at the club's boarding facilities as he worked through the age groups.

By 2024 he had become captain of River Plate's reserve side, a left-footed centre-back who also covers at left-back. Across that season he made 36 appearances in competitions such as the Copa Proyección without scoring or picking up a red card, and he trained repeatedly with Marcelo Gallardo's first team, though a senior debut never came. That November he spoke publicly about his ambition to break into the Primera División side. In July of that year, River Plate had made it official, signing him to his first professional contract, running to the end of 2026.

The deal did not run its course. River Plate terminated Álvarez's contract in July 2025, and within weeks he had signed for Racing Club de Montevideo as a free agent, joining the Uruguayan side in early August.

With his development years split between one of Argentina's biggest academies and a fresh start in Uruguayan football, Álvarez's career is still taking shape at senior level.
