Gastón Américo Benavídez

Gastón Benavídez made his name in Argentina's lower divisions before a decisive penalty turned him into a champion. In the 2025 Supercopa Internacional, facing River Plate, the left-footed defender converted the kick that gave Talleres the title — a moment described locally as one of tears and emotion for a player who had spent years working his way up rather than arriving with fanfare.

Benavídez started out at Tiro Federal, the club from his home town of Morteros, before moving to Estudiantes de Río Cuarto in 2017. There he made 76 appearances and won the Torneo Federal A in the 2018–19 season, part of the climb through Argentina's regional and national divisions. A loan spell at Arsenal de Sarandí followed in 2021, where he featured in 29 matches.

The move that shaped the following stage of his career came in 2022, when Talleres de Córdoba took him on loan. He stayed for three and a half seasons, long enough to become an established figure in the squad and to be on the pitch for the club's biggest recent triumph, the Supercopa Internacional win over River Plate. That penalty put Talleres' name on a trophy few outside the traditional Buenos Aires clubs manage to lift.

In 2025, Benavídez left Argentina altogether, joining Athletico Paranaense in Brazil as the club secured its return to Serie A. The switch marked his first move outside his home country, taking a player shaped by loan spells and provincial football into one of Brazil's top-flight sides.
