Gilberto

Gilberto came through the Santa Cruz academy and made his first-team debut there in 2009, staying until 2011 before Internacional signed him.

Internacional is where his best spell of consistent form came. He won the Campeonato Gaúcho in both 2012 and 2013, and a loan to Sport Recife in 2012 produced a top-scorer finish in the Campeonato Pernambucano. A second loan, to Portuguesa in 2013, followed before he left Brazil altogether.

Toronto paid more than three million dollars for him in 2014. When Toronto released him, Chicago Fire brought him in as a Designated Player. He returned to Brazil in 2016 with São Paulo, and the following year shared the Campeonato Paulista top scorer prize with William Pottker, though the title itself went elsewhere.

A move to Turkey with Yeni Malatyaspor in January 2018 lasted only half a season — twelve games, two goals — before he decided the lack of playing time and the toll of the schedule weren't worth it, and he went back to Brazil.

From there the path widened: Al-Wasl in the United Arab Emirates in 2022, then Cruzeiro in 2023, where no trophies came his way, and Juventude in 2024. He has never been capped by Brazil's senior national team.
