Hernán Darío López Muñoz

López Muñoz came through River Plate's academy, joining as a child in 2014 and staying through the club's youth ranks until 2019. His first-team debut came on 7 April 2019 against Tigre: sent on as a substitute, he scored the winning goal in the 85th minute, an instant mark on a career that was only starting.

He stayed with River long enough to win the Recopa Sudamericana that same year, but the path afterwards ran through loan spells rather than a settled place in the side. Central Córdoba took him in 2021 and 2022, and Godoy Cruz followed in 2023, first on loan and then permanently, when the Mendoza club bought half of his rights from River for one million dollars in 2024. That season brought recognition beyond the pitch results: ESPN named him a standout figure of the Copa de la Liga.

The move that changed the scale of his career came in April 2024, when San Jose Earthquakes signed him from Argentina for six million dollars, with a further million tied to appearance incentives. The switch to MLS put him closer to a first senior call-up than at any previous point — he was under consideration for Argentina's Copa América squad that year, though club fixtures kept him out of the final selection, and he remains uncapped at senior level.

A shoulder operation in March 2025 interrupted his time in the United States, with recovery reported at three to four months. By July 2025 he had returned to Argentina, joining Argentinos Juniors on loan with an option to buy, a move that brought him back into the domestic league where his career began.
