About the player
Hunter Pendleton Sulte grew up in Anchorage, Alaska. He spent several seasons with the reserve side, Portland Timbers 2, before making his first-team debut on 1 May 2021 against FC Dallas. He was 19 years and six days old that day, making him the second-youngest goalkeeper to start an MLS match, and at 201cm he stands as the tallest goalkeeper the league has ever had.
Across two seasons there, Sulte kept 18 clean sheets, a club record. In 2024 he was named to the USL Championship's Team of the Week and picked up a Save of the Week award for a penalty stop.
Portland activated the option on his contract in December 2024, and a year later, in December 2025, the club signed him to a new multi-year deal running through 2028. He has represented the United States at under-18 and under-20 level but has not yet appeared for the senior national team.
