About the player
The club's first cup win since 2007 came in Joshua Eze's first season at the club. Verl beat Sportfreunde Lotte in the Westfalenpokal final on 23 May 2026.
Eze arrived at Verl in May 2025 on a free transfer, signing until 30 June 2027.
He worked through the U17 and U19 sides and wore the captain's armband for the U19s in 2021/22. In May 2022 Leverkusen gave him his first professional contract, but the step up never followed: he stayed in the youth and reserve setups and did not play a senior match for the first team.
In August 2023 he and Leverkusen agreed to terminate the contract, and he left as a free agent for SC Fortuna Köln in the Regionalliga West. He made 38 appearances there across two seasons before Verl signed him for the 3. Liga.
Eze holds both German and Nigerian citizenship. Neither federation has capped him at youth level, so the choice of national side has not yet been put to him.
