About the player
Julio Pleguezuelo left Barcelona's academy for Arsenal at 16, but a first-team appearance in north London never came — one League Cup outing was all he managed, and his time there was spent captaining the youth side and lifting the Premier League 2 U21 play-off in 2016. Loan spells at Mallorca and Gimnàstic followed before he moved on as a free agent.
It was in the Netherlands that Pleguezuelo built a career. Across four years at Twente he made 96 appearances and was named in the division's team of the month in March 2022.
He signed for Plymouth Argyle as a free agent in 2023, becoming the first Spanish player in the club's history, and put pen to paper on a contract running to 2027. He has since passed 65 appearances for the club.
Pleguezuelo has had his moments of drama at Home Park. Weeks later, in an FA Cup tie against Liverpool, he won every one of his six individual duels and added four tackles. A broken rib picked up against Portsmouth kept him out before he returned in March 2025, with manager Miron Muslic praising his commitment to the side.
At youth level, Pleguezuelo represented Spain at U16, U17 and U18, but a senior cap has so far eluded him.
