About the player
Xavier Amaechi left England as a teenager. After coming through Fulham's youth ranks and then Arsenal's, he moved to Hamburger SV in July 2019. His senior football at Hamburg amounted to ten league appearances without a goal, while the reserve side saw rather more of him, with five goals in six matches.
Two loans followed. A spell at Karlsruher SC in the second half of 2020/21 preceded a season in England with Bolton Wanderers, where he scored once in ten league games. By 2023 he was a free agent, moving to 1. FC Magdeburg in the German second division. He made 16 league appearances there in his first season, scoring once, and stayed until his contract ran out in the summer of 2025.
Plymouth Argyle announced his signing on 19 June 2025, a free transfer that took effect on 1 July once his Magdeburg deal expired. The club handed him a three-year contract, through to 2028, and the number 10 shirt. He has continued in the side into 2026/27.
