About the player
Djurgården signed Kristian Strømland Lien in January 2026 on a four-year deal. The forward's route there was not straightforward: he left Groningen's books without ever forcing his way into a settled role, making 15 appearances for the Dutch club's first team and scoring once.
Lien's best form came out on loan. At Hamarkameratene in 2025 he scored 11 goals in 30 matches. A year earlier, on loan at Kristiansund, he added two goals in 14 games.
Before any of that, it was at Mjøndalen that Lien first drew wider attention. In May 2023 he scored six goals in the month, more than anyone else in the OBOS-ligaen at the time, and was named the division's player of the month. That spell, in which he scored 11 goals in 25 matches, was enough to earn him his move abroad to Groningen two months later.
Lien came up through Flekkefjord, his hometown club, before a brief stop at IK Start and a longer one at Flekkerøy, where 14 goals in 38 matches across 2021 and 2022 built the case for a step up to Mjøndalen.
