Luis Joel Estupiñán García

Estupiñán's career carries an early complication: his 2020 move from Mushuc Runa to Universidad Católica drew a formal complaint from his old club, which argued he still had two years left on his contract when he signed a four-year deal in Quito. The federation annulled the disputed contract, but Estupiñán continued playing for Universidad Católica regardless.

A loan to Delfín SC followed later that year, before he joined Técnico Universitario in the middle of 2021. He returned to the club this year after a spell away, having spent the intervening seasons at other clubs.

The clearest of those came in 2024, when a move to LDU Quito brought him a Serie A title. He was a regular fixture across a heavy schedule that year, appearing in 42 matches in all competitions — 28 in the league, three in the Ecuadorian Cup and eleven in CONMEBOL cup competition — for one goal and five assists.

In January 2025 he moved on loan to Deportivo Cuenca under coach Norberto Araujo, where his output shifted noticeably: 35 league appearances brought three goals and five assists. That loan spell has now ended, and he is back at Técnico Universitario for 2026.

A right-footed forward who plays predominantly out wide, Estupiñán is not a towering presence at 170cm.
