About the player

Rosario has produced sharper strikers than Luciano Daniel Pons, but few whose path took as many detours before it found a settled home. He came through Argentino de Rosario, where a five-year stint yielded 37 goals in 107 appearances, the kind of return that should have opened a direct route upward. Instead his career scattered: a loan to Venezuela's Aragua FC, a spell at Jorge Newbery, then a string of Argentine clubs — San Miguel, Atlanta, Flandria, San Martín de Tucumán, Banfield — where the goals came in bursts rather than a steady climb. At San Miguel he scored 34 times in 50 games, a rate he never quite matched again on home soil.

The move abroad came later than for many of his generation. At Independiente Medellín in Colombia he found consistent minutes, playing 96 matches and scoring 25 goals across two seasons, before a switch to Chile's Universidad de Chile brought a quieter return of three goals in 22 appearances.

It is in Colombia, this time at Atlético Bucaramanga, that Pons has built his clearest mark. Signed on loan in January 2025 with an option to buy, he later joined on a permanent basis. By 2025 he had become the club's top scorer with 23 goals, and in April that year he found the net against Brazil's Fortaleza in the Copa Libertadores, a match that finished 1-1. For a player who spent much of his twenties moving between clubs without ever quite settling, it marked the clearest sign yet of a forward finally established as first choice.
