About the player
Mallie McKenzie's first NWSL appearance came late and briefly: on 24 August 2024, she replaced a teammate in the 78th minute against Gotham FC.
The invitation turned into one. In March 2024, McKenzie signed her first professional deal, a one-year contract with the Thorns, and took the number 29 shirt. In the NWSL x Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup, she started all three matches and set up Olivia Moultry's goal against Utah Royals. By the end of 2024 her Portland record read seven appearances, no goals and one assist. In December, the club extended her contract for another year.
She had joined the youth side UFA Milton in the eighth grade and helped the team win three Georgia state championships. From 2019 she played four years of college football for the Georgia Bulldogs in the NCAA, making 98 appearances and finishing with six goals and 22 assists.
McKenzie is listed as a defender, most often on the right, and has also been used in midfield; Sofascore records her as left-footed. She has not been called up by the United States national team.
