Maximiliano Samuel Romero

Maximiliano Romero came through Vélez Sarsfield's academy and broke into the first team in 2016, before a €10.5m move to PSV that December turned him into one of the more closely watched Argentine exports of his generation. The switch to the Netherlands did not settle him in quickly: PSV loaned him straight back to Vélez, and much of his time in Eindhoven was split between the reserve side, Jong PSV, and spells away from the first team.

His most productive run came after a return to Argentina. A loan to Racing Club in 2022 led the club to buy out his contract outright the following year for €2.7m, and it was there that he picked up the Argentine Super Cup in 2023. Earlier, while still tied to PSV, he had also won the Dutch Cup. Neither medal came with individual recognition attached, and he moved on from Racing to Argentinos Juniors on loan in January 2024.

He crossed into Chilean football in July 2025, joining O'Higgins on loan, and signed for Colo-Colo in January 2026, where he wears the number 19 shirt. At youth level, he was capped six times for Argentina's under-20 side and scored twice, in 2019, without progressing to senior international recognition.

Romero plays as a forward, right-footed, and his career has so far been defined less by a single defining moment than by movement — loans, buy-back clauses and a string of clubs across two continents before the age of thirty.
