M. Soticek

The move that made him a Basel player came with a price tag: around €3m, paid to NK Lokomotiva Zagreb on 18 July 2024, on a contract running to the summer of 2028.

He was born in Novo Mesto, in Slovenia, but represents Croatia at international level. The football came from Zagreb: he grew up in Lokomotiva's system and signed his first professional contract there in the summer of 2022. A spell out of the first team followed in February 2023, when he joined NK Jarun Zagreb on loan and played five matches, scoring twice.

The first season in Switzerland brought two trophies. Basel won the Swiss Super League and the Swiss Cup in 2024/25, with Šotiček part of the squad in both campaigns.

His international record runs through the youth grades. He played eight times for Croatia's under-18s between 2021 and 2022, scoring two goals, and made seven appearances for the under-19s over the following season. Since 2024 he has been in the under-21 set-up, where he has 20 caps and three goals, including qualifying matches for the European Under-21 Championship. He has not been called up by the senior national team.

In July 2026, still under contract at Basel, he was loaned to HNK Hajduk Split. The terms of the deal were not made public.
