About the player
Maddy Mercado spent her college years doing something defenders rarely do: scoring. Across four seasons at Notre Dame, from 2019 to 2024, she made 94 appearances and found the net 26 times.
Seattle Reign FC took her in the 2024 NWSL Draft, 27th overall, and signed her on 12 January 2024. She made her professional debut that May, coming on against Kansas City Current, and did not take long to leave a mark on the scoresheet at this level too, scoring in a league match against Orlando Pride the same season. The following March, on the 20th, she added an assist.
Her path to Notre Dame ran through the San Diego Surf SC academy and Cathedral Catholic High School.
Mercado wore number 3 in college; at the club now known as OL Reign, she plays under number 2. In August 2025, she agreed a contract extension through 2026, with an option for a further year.
