Mamadou Diarra

Football, for Mamadou Diarra, started well outside the academies that produce most professionals. He worked his way up through smaller clubs around Paris — FC Issy, US Villejuif, Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois, Paris 13 Atletico — before Grenoble Foot 38 offered a step into more structured football. None of it followed the conventional route of a French top-flight youth system, and the path abroad, when it came, took him a long way from home.

In 2023 Diarra left France for Slovenia, joining FC Koper, though his stay there lasted only a few months. A move to Bulgaria followed in September 2024, when he signed for Lokomotiv Sofia.

The bigger step came in September 2025, when he joined Erbil SC in Iraq. It proved to be his most productive spell yet: Diarra made 35 appearances for the club and was named to the season's team of the year.

Diarra holds dual French and Malian nationality, and has said in interviews that he would like to represent Mali at international level, though he has yet to win a cap for the national side.

In 2026, Diarra signed for FC Botoșani in Romania as a free agent, continuing a career that has taken him through five countries in as many years. Terms of the move, as with his previous transfers, were not disclosed.
